Good luck with it, Kevin, but if past performance is any indication, it will be ignored this year too; not only by pipe smokers but by the general public.
What we need is a NATIONAL Pipe Smokers Day, honoring AMERICAN pipe smokers. I proposed this last year... too late... but not set in the middle of winter.

Think of the possible boost to our hobby if every B&M in the USA placed this half-page ad in their local newspaper. This is not "preaching to the choir"... it's putting pipe smoking in a good light before the PUBLIC. And it is NEEDED, with all the anti-smoking propaganda in the media now.

I would like to agree with you jimbo, they want everybody quite enjoying themselves with a good smoke! I think about it every time I see a advertisment. You know everyday when I read the paper with my morning bowl, I see all of the DUI arrest but there don't seem to be against bars. How many people actually call for a cab, and who do you know that's willing to go to the bar and not drink so they can be the D-driver? :roll:

Well I know that every day is pipe smoking day for ME! I'm going to print some flyers and take them into school on the 15th, the next day I actually have a class. Then, using funds from my aborted Valentine's Date, I shall purchase several corn cobs, and hope that I couple of people show up. Of course, I'll probably get nothing but a few hippies who'll leave upon realizing that it is actually for tobacco pipes.

I loved your proposal and I am sorry I never got a chance to get behind it. I really wanted to and things are so busy that before I knew it, the time had gone by and it was too late ... at least for now.

Kevin, I KNEW it was too late last year when I had that brainstorm and pasted up that poster. I chose the late October date with the consideration that it is right before the November elections, when smokers need a positive image with the public. No elections in 2011, but it's also a time when people start thinking of sitting in front of a warm fire when the weather starts to turn colder.... for some of us, with a pipe!
A side note: One of the pipe VIPs I saluted in that poster, Coach Emory Bellard who created the Wishbone formation, passed away earlier this week at age 83, of Lou Gehrig's Disease. I remember his weekly "Texas A&M Football" TV show, where he smoked his pipe on camera while thoughtfully giving an overview of the next week's game. We need more like him today!
