I have never been a big fan of the look of olive wood pipes, but Marty Pulvers recently put this new Il Duca Olive Wood pipe for sale on his site and, I have to say, this looks really cool. Unlike most olive wood pipes, which are left smooth, this one appears to be blasted or rusticated, which gives it a really distinct look. It is for sale at Marty's site if you are interested. I am still not ready to take the plunge, lol.

I looked long and hard at that pipe. I'm in the market for an olive wood pipe, and thought it might be fun to take a plunge into virgin finishes at the same time. But my PAD was absorbed by rcstan's lovely Pete Rosslare last week. Ah well... there are always more pipes.

I believe that finish will darken with time probably soft grain first, that is stunning to say the least Il Duca has some exquisite stuff.

Im interested in an olive wood pipe but also a little reluctant to "take the plunge". Same goes with morta. Someday... hopefully sooner than later.

That is a very cool looking pipe, I really like it. I have never taken the plunge on Olivewood and honestly don't see myself doing so any time soon.
Peck, take one for the team and buy that sucker and let us know how Olivewood smokes in comparison to briar.

The way artisans can read the grain of the wood always amazes me. I love how the blast reveals concentric rings from the heel of the pipe back and how the stem on the other end is perpendicular to the grain.
