I had an E.C. Carey carburetor pipe, with the carburetor in the stem that never seemed to do much good and aired out the smoke too much. I have a Kaywoodie Drinkless Ruff-Tone with the screw-in stinger stem but no carburetor that smokes well. The stinger just takes a second to clean off, and it does give a good dry smoke, though I don't have much moisture problem with any of my pipes.
I think new production Kaywoodie pipes are well above their price point in quality. I know they went through a less-good phase, but I've found my recent new Kaywoodie well made and good smokers. The Saxons have thin walls, but insulate very well, no heating-up problems at all. And the fit and finish are fine.
This pipe could be a great smoke. Maybe let us know.
