Cool pipe. These gimmick pipes are always interesting to see, it gives a glimpse into a different time. Looks to be in great shape!

I’ve heard those carburetor pipes smoke pretty well but I’ve never tried one, though I’ve been tempted because they usually cost much less than the standard Kaywoodies. Nice find.

I own a couple of Kaywoodie carburetor pipes, and honestly I don’t notice much difference in smoking, except a tiny waft of smoke sometimes comes from the hole.

I’ve smoked a pipe for fifty years.

I probably just adjust my draw without thinking about it.

I find that even the gimmick pipes that have stuck around, that they work but not in any way that is going to safe someone from bad technique. More nudge the line over a little bit. I imagine that in most cases the added work and expense just doesn't do enough to make it worth while. It also seems it's got to be obvious looking at the pipe in a display case. Even a Peterson style system stands out with fat shanks and weird mouth holes.

I had an E.C. Carey carburetor pipe, with the carburetor in the stem that never seemed to do much good and aired out the smoke too much. I have a Kaywoodie Drinkless Ruff-Tone with the screw-in stinger stem but no carburetor that smokes well. The stinger just takes a second to clean off, and it does give a good dry smoke, though I don't have much moisture problem with any of my pipes.

I think new production Kaywoodie pipes are well above their price point in quality. I know they went through a less-good phase, but I've found my recent new Kaywoodie well made and good smokers. The Saxons have thin walls, but insulate very well, no heating-up problems at all. And the fit and finish are fine.

This pipe could be a great smoke. Maybe let us know.

If i try a bowl out of it I’ll report back, mb some Lane 1-Q and see if the goo drips out the bottom. PHRASING!
