As I was doing some cooking today and getting a pipe ready to smoke after the meal, I just started to realize how much my tobacco prep and pipe cleaning takes place in the kitchen.
For tobacco prep, I regularly use the microwave for ~7-10 seconds to dry it out. For flake. I will put in the coffee grinder for a half-second. Any tin I open, I put in a strainer to get the 'coffee grounds' out before putting in a mason jar. When I first started pipe smoking (and sometimes still do it), I used the steak touch test to make sure I wasn't packing too tightly or too lightly, medium is just about right.
A lot of the pipes I smoke are old and well used, so I use a turkey baster to gently push air or water through the mortise and stem to help remove any old deposits or blockages rather than trying to jam a cleaner/bristle through it. Removing oxidation sometimes involves a green dish scrub and just boiled water from the tea kettle (along with toothpaste).
Anyone else find themselves prepping or cleaning in the kitchen?
