Starting to Get Obsessed

As I was doing some cooking today and getting a pipe ready to smoke after the meal, I just started to realize how much my tobacco prep and pipe cleaning takes place in the kitchen.

For tobacco prep, I regularly use the microwave for ~7-10 seconds to dry it out. For flake. I will put in the coffee grinder for a half-second. Any tin I open, I put in a strainer to get the 'coffee grounds' out before putting in a mason jar. When I first started pipe smoking (and sometimes still do it), I used the steak touch test to make sure I wasn't packing too tightly or too lightly, medium is just about right.

A lot of the pipes I smoke are old and well used, so I use a turkey baster to gently push air or water through the mortise and stem to help remove any old deposits or blockages rather than trying to jam a cleaner/bristle through it. Removing oxidation sometimes involves a green dish scrub and just boiled water from the tea kettle (along with toothpaste).

Anyone else find themselves prepping or cleaning in the kitchen?

My blenders bench and pipes are located in the kitchen on a counter and some shelves. I do most of my processing and blending in there. I do lots of stoving so it's easier to have everything in the kitchen. My shredder is in my office though.

I keep my pipes pretty clean and in a plastic bin. I let them cool on the porch before bringing them in as well so no smell issues with that.

I have a few pounds of tobacco in one of the cupboards and often dry tobacco on a paper towel on the kitchen bar while getting my lunch ready for work.

I get chased away from the kitchen sink all the time while cleaning pipes, as well as paint brushes, gardening tools, greasy equipment, etc. It’s not like we don’t have other more suitable areas to clean up. She really gets PO’ed when I use her dish towels?

Plus one on when the wife’s not around.

When the wife’s not around
, I wash everything from pipes to golf clubs.

I even know someone who places car parts in the dishwasher, When the wife’s not around.
