After hearing everybody's advice in my previous post I decided to go ahead and buy the piece. Glad I did, it really was too good a deal to pass. Thanks to everybody who gave input!

Looks like the color is just off because of grime. The stem screw and tenon look pretty grubby too, and the stem will be in this same crooked position no matter what angle I start screwing it from. Any advice on how to fix these issues?

Believe me that bone tenon looks clean compared to quite a few that I've seen 😁

The over-clocked stem can easily be fixed with some silicon plumber's tape
Or painting the tenon with nail polish. Be careful not to overdo.

An application of white beeswax to the bowl will have it looking spiffy
Do a search on how its done

I would not use any tape or plumbers putty. First try to unscrew the tenon from the stem. Is it a different thread pitch in the stem than it is in the mortis?
You have worked on bone tenons before on these old meers, correct?

I use tape all the time. But that’s just me. The trick with tape is use as little as possible. Too much expands everything. Something’s gotta give.

Tape is ok as a last resort, but id see if it could fixed conventionally first. If it's got a dual pitch tenon all you have to do is turn it out of the stem a little to get it to clock properly. If its a single pitch tenon, there isn't much you can do other than put a shim on the shank or cut a new stem. Of course you can always install a new tenon, but thats not really an amateur job.

Back to cleaning: warm water and dish detergent to remove the surface dirt.
Wax is an unnecessary, time consuming step, except at the factory with a brand new Meer.

Just use a soft rag and a little bit of water to wipe away the dirt.

If you're unable to unscrew and re-insert the bone tenon, then you can use beeswax to help sit the stem correctly. I have an old meer that is slightly off, so I take a small piece of beeswax and place it between the stem and shank, and when you screw on the stem it should tighten up and you can set it straight (if that makes sense).

Can you unscrew the tenon from the stem? Post a picture of the tenon if you can. If you cant don't force it.
No, I've tried.

Yeah I've seen enough people on here say waxing isn't necessary that I'm gonna skip that

I'm not sure what you mean
