I spent most of the day, last Thursday, in consultation with my physicians (Cardiologist, Internist, etc) and the bottom line for me is that I have to give up smoking my pipes. I have developed some health issues recently that are making me give up my hobby that I have had since 1978. I tried to bargain with my doctors that I would only smoke "every now and then" but they have let me know that I no longer have that option. While my health issues were not brought on by pipe smoking, I have been told, that any nicotine consumption can not be in my life. I am in shock as well as depressed. I do have a strong support system and I want to have the best quality of life possible, as long as possible. I appreciate your prayers.
I have a very large tobacco cellar, and pipes, that I will try to sell. I will post some of my collection on the forum, soon, at bargain prices. I planned on having plenty of tobacco that I would always enjoy, regardless of what regulations the government imposed in the future. Now, I will have to divest my collection but I hope to pass it on to those who will enjoy it the way I would.

I am very sorry to hear that Phil. While it is sad, I hope that giving up the hobby can at least help you with your prognosis or quality of life. Best wishes to you and yours, I know the denizens of this forum will be pulling for you.

I do not know you, and to the best of my knowledge your post above is the first of yours which I have read. Having said that, I want you to know that I am truly impressed with the candor and good grace which you displayed therein as you described your situation and how you plan to deal with it. Well done, Sir!
Please know that I have prayed for your health and well being, and that to you go my very best wishes for the future.

Phil, you have my sympathies and my wishes that you stay as healthy as possible. That said, there are other ways you can enjoy life. Take the need to stop smoking as a challenge, sell the stuff with a light heart and a smile. You are simply turning a page in life. Don't rue the changes, embrace them as something positive. Again, take the the best care of yourself as you can and "step out lively!" into the next big adventure.
Good luck! Take the best care of yourself!

Phil, I hope your health improves and that you find an activity that brings you as much joy as pipe smoking has brought you these past 37 years.

Phil thats horrible, sorry yo hear that. Would chomping on a unsmoked pipe be to much of a tease for you? Just wondering cause I walk around my house most of the day with an unlit pipe sticking out of my mouth. Hope things get better for you.

I'm sorry that you have to give up something that you enjoy and have a passion for, and hope, and pray that you will have (as you said) "the best quality of life, as long as possible." and to be able to enjoy it, Best Wishes.

Sorry to hear about that phil. On the bright side, you got to enjoy a pipe for many, many years. I hope everything gets better for you.

I hate to hear that you're being forced to give it up because of your health. We hope to stick around and continue to share and pitch in. In the end it is your health we're talking about here..

Sorry to hear that. I think anyone that cellars tobacco always plans for the worst in politics but the best in health. Unfortunately we can't see the future and obviously your health will always be more important, at least you had nearly 40 years of enjoyment. Best wishes.

Sorry to hear of your health problems and that they require you to give up something you clearly enjoyed. You will be in the prayers of your brothers in briar.
