Just had a HUGE mail delivery to the ship a couple days ago when we pulled into Bahrain. I ended up with 3 pipe-related packages, but no pics just yet. The first was a manilla envelope with a pipe I bought off ebay - a Lorenzo Varallo shape 718. It was shipped in the bubble wrap type envelope inside only a thin cellophane wrap...... with the stem still inserted. So the tenon is now stuck inside the shank and the stem was floating around inside the envelope. Not a real big deal, I only paid 15 bucks for it. I'm sure I can figure out how to fix it if I can get the tenon out.
The second package I opened was the Royal Danish that I bought from shaintiques. Looks pretty good after the cleanup. Smells like it might have been a perique-smoker for a while, so I think I'll leave it to that whenever I decide to light it up. In the box was a small bag of what I think is 1Q, which I've been sharing out to a couple of friends.
Third was my last order from P&C.com, with a LOT of good tobacco and a couple MM cobs. Most notably, 4oz of 1Q, Blackhouse and Larry's blend. I've got a bit of Captain Earle's Mystic Blend sitting out to smoke in a little bit assuming the wind dies down. One of the cobs I had reserved for my buddy and luckily enough it shows up on his birthday, so that was nice. The other I think I had two or 3 good smokes out of and then retired it to one of my other friends who's predominantly a cigar smoker - now a partial convert.
Yesterday I went out and found a cigar store in America Town with some of my buddies and picked up a nice little Mr. Plumb - maybe 4 inches long with a pretty good sized 30 minute bowl. They were pretty liberal with fillings but it's still a good smoker. Also found some Dunhill Early Morning and a nice Vector lighter with pipe tools. All together it cost me about 30 Diner (90 USD) which was a little steep, but whatever. Just went out and checked and it's still too windy to light up comfortably.
Across the bay is Saudi Arabia, separated from Bahrain by a single 4-lane bridge barely a quarter mile long. There's a LOT of construction here, no doubt aided by the financial boost they get from having an American base here. I'm running out of things to say, I think I stayed up too late last night, my eyes are drooping. I'll take pictures tomorrow or something and get them up. Until then!
