Yeah me too but the oxidation on some was like a millimetre thick and redish… the good stuffI don’t mind light oxidation. The heavy stuff can wreck a good day.
Nice job!But the end result always makes up for it…

Well vulcanite will oxidise unless it’s sealed with some kind of coating. Since I don’t like any coatings on my stems, I have no idea how obsidian oil works. Me personally I clean and polish my stem to a mirror finish and I don’t do anything special to prevent oxidation. If I wanted my stem to be always in a very good shape, I would have to use just the last 2 or 3 micro mesh pads with water once every week or two. My personal pipes generally get a full fresh clean and polish once a month, in the mean time they are being workshop pipes. I guess only my churchwardens stay in good condition all the time. Will oxidation on vulcanite always pop up on you even with something like obsidian oil? I've only been pipe smoking 3 years and 1 year seriously but I already had to take micro mesh to a couple Peterson Sherlocks because I left them a little too close to a window.
Ever since I got my first estate pipe I can’t imagine going back to acrylic stems I am even selling one of my favourite pipes a Peterson Jekyll & Hyde, also switching my Savinelli 320ks fantasia for a 320ks Tris with the Cumberland stem. I just hope it’s not the fake acrylic CumberlandI hate cleaning oxidation so much that I have pretty much stopped buying vulcanite stemmed pipes unless something really speaks to me.
Anyways, enjoy the fruits of your labor. Those stems look brand new.
Obsidian Oil will definitely slow down the onset of oxidation but you have to use it rigorously. Mineral oil will also have a similar effect. Neither will help much if there’s already oxidation. Will oxidation on vulcanite always pop up on you even with something like obsidian oil?
