Chacom no 4

Manufactured by Kohlhase & Kopp
Virginia / Perique Flake
10% Domestic / 90% Foreign Grown Tobacco

Tobacco Reviews Description
Chacom's #4 consists of various Virginias combined with a small portion of perique for some added strength and a touch of fruity spice. The mixture is then cold-pressed for four weeks before being cut into slices. It results in a flake tobacco that's medium in strength and rich in flavor.

On my first bowl, out of a fresh tin. Moisture was a bit more than immediately smokable, allowed it to dry long enough to snap the photo above. Initial light made me think of PS Luxury Navy Flake. Tamp, light... tamp light... this is not PS Luxury Navy Flake. Flavors are more rich, not a hint of bite and burns well for being a bit damp. I let it go out for about 20 minutes and upon relighting I am getting pure Va/Per deliciousness. Gentle sipping is producing a lot of smoke with flavors of bread, fruit and a touch of cinnamon. Retrohale is pleasing with a gentle tingle from the fruity perique.

Half way through the bowl and I think I know what this reminds me of, Marlin Flake without the cavendish. The proportions may be a bit different but this tastes to me like a Rattray's style blend. Flavors continue to intensify, bready, fruity and a touch of spice. Behaves extremely well, burns easily, no moisture problems, does not seem to be easy to heat up. Available at SmokingPipes for $8.20 a tin, this one is a winner for me.

Great essay, both written and photographically.

You must handle your lighter the way I do, with the thumb resting partly on the body of the lighter. I tried to light with touching only the wheel, and it's awkward.
Thank you very much!
I bought the lighter used with that wear but I think it is beautiful, one man's trusty, faithful companion.

Reminds me, with the tasting notes mentioned in the videos of the Former's (discontinued I think?) line of Va/Per flakes from Dan Tobacco in Germany.

Shane was right about one thing, "Currently Out of Stock"

When I first saw this post I was curious, since as per the description this is the kind of VaPer I would like a lot. The video made me more interested - I will get some soon. Thanks for the heads up.

If you haven't already, I'd take a look at Dan Tobacco's offerings. Virignia Slice and Veermaster are some of my favorite current production VAs.

Thank you! I indeed like the German blending houses - It has mostly been Kolhase & Kopp so far, but I think Dan Tobacco is in the same league.I have smoked HU Dockworker which is blended by Dan Tobacco. I will try the Dan tobacco Virginias.
