My campus has gone tobbaco free. But University Police just ignore me at the campus cafe outdoor seating area and at the Library and women complement me on the nice smell of my pipe. While cigaertes smoker have to go across the street, I am still dry under the awning puffing away on my pipe. I can even start my pipe inside the foyer and walk out. I am imune to the smoke Nazis for now

I've noticed that in general my pipe is better accepted that other forms of smoking. Instead of looks of disgust I get people asking me questions about my pipe and tobacco.

I've found that same lack of hostility while smoking my pipes. One young lady actually stopped to tell me my tobacco smelled 'delicious'. Thanks to my pipes, I now know most of the people in my building at work. It seems that pipe smoke offers people a sort of window to a simpler, slower and gentler time. Demonstrate courtesy in your words and enjoy the positive feedback.

I get the same thing. PSU has the huge area that is smoke-free, the "Urban Plaza." Well, I make it a point to sit beneath a no-smoking sign and puff for at least an hour when it isn't too cold or rainy. I've still never been told off by anyone with "authority." Although one fat, bitter-looking woman did the whole "talking to my friend while really telling off the smoker five feet away" thing.

The reasons that we're more accepted are probably the lingering good feelings towards pipes and the novelty of seeing them anymore.

"Smoking" is forbidden at the fire-station, if you smoke you must do it 25 feet from any public entrance to a city building.
However,....I do not live by the rules, I smoke my pipes out in the rig-room every shift and have recieved nothing but compliments and praises from literally everyone who walks past, including the Chief.

Not to long ago I took a trip to the big box store with a buddy and his dad . His dad never quit smoking his pipe the whole time . I have yet to try it on my own . Perhaps we should all try this and post the results . Now that would be a hoot .

Wow, I catch all kinds of grief when I smoke my pipe from the smoke nazis. Even if it's empty and I just have it in my kisser. I also get the complements too but not as much as the griping. But, ask me if I care.

lol i was standing out in the street smoking my pipe outside work the other day and i got the funniest looks from people walking by. but everyone here in vancouver is a health nut. however, last little christmas party i was at, after too many vodka martinis, i was outside with all the smokers and all the women loved it and all the guys had to try it.
its kind of a hard thing to start out of thin air like i did because most people you know just laugh and say wtf. i guess thats what makes us so special though. we like being unique.
