Okay. I know I’ve been blowing up the forums . I’m new to the luxury of enjoying pipe tobacco and I’m trying to figure this out.
I’ve read that pipe that they vaccinated must be at specific humidity levels. I’m placing my tobacco in mason jars then I’m placing the mason jars in my coolidor where I can regulate temperature and humidity. I’m leaving my temp at 60 degrees as I have said in previous threads . But is it really necessary to keep humidity levels? I’m confused because I keep reading that you should keep humidity levels and place boveda packets in the jar. But this is going to be longtime cellaring.

so is it really necessary to maintain humidity when they are in mason jars?

I put the tobacco, as I got it, into the mason jar. Once it's in the jar, I don't care how cold or hot it gets in my house, or what the humidity level is. But it's kept out of direct sunlight. Never found an issue in a mason jar.
Ok cool. I’ll just keep it in my coolidor that at consistent temperature and go from there then.

When I finally smoke the tobacco out of the jar, I dry my tobacco out for atleast a day or two before smoking it anyways. Crunchy dry crispy tobacco. So it's irrelevant to me.

Now that you mention it I think I like dryer smokes myself
Once it's in the jar, humidity is no longer an issue. The coolidor is probably overkill and boveda packs will encourage mold growth. Pipe tobacco needs far less babying than cigars.
ok cool lol. I thought the coolidor was pretty cool though so I’ll just utilize it for consistent temp. It was just the humidity part that had me all messed up. Because everywhere I read it says keep it at certain levels

For a fella who calls himself the WordDragon you sure do have terrible grammer skills. I hope you have better luck with pipe smoking. ?

Seriously though, treat your tobacco like your canned goods. Throw it in a mason jar, seal the lid and put it on a cool, dry shelf. From there you can use the Ron Popiel rotisserie method... "Set it and forget it." It's that easy. Try not to over think it.
