Hi folks, this my question may seem a bit stupid and it is,nevertheless mind my asking, how I'm supposed to store my brand new pipe which I'm not gonna using in the near future,in it original sales box in pipe sock or without?Guess this safer way than on the shelve?

I've gotten me one pretty nice pipe which was discounted 50% off,and I could'nt resist to have it for a rainy day'

Thanks for your thoughts,Paul

Without seeing it, we cannot tell how to store it properly :P Kidding, I would just keep it in its sock inside its own box. That's how they keep it in a warehouse of a vendor until it is sold. So, I would do the same thing.

Put them in Mason jars and keep it out of direct sunlight. If the pipe is too long, remove the stem. In fact, never look directly at it. Only look at it using your peripheral vision. And, I bury mine in the back yard, but that's not necessary. A bit of overkill actually. But, it works. :puffy:

Ideally, the best situation would be to have it hovering in absolute weightlessness in the vacuum of space, (always on the darkside) but then it gets difficult to retrieve it for smoking... Because of the dark. YMMV :puffy:

Before storing and concealing it to the eyes of the world, please show us a picture of your new pipe!

Sock, box, safe drawer or cabinet. C'est tout. I have a new pipe in waiting; I thought I was just being neurotic.

I've thought about buying a new pipe, and keeping it in the cellar with my tobacco. One of those Just in case moments i guess.

When I rarely buy a new pipe, I put it on its own stand on my tobacco shelf so I can admire it for a while before it joins the rest of the team.
I'll even go in the room they sit in and turn on the light just to look at it and make sure it's ok.

Ok Folks, so much for this subject, just bought this Rattray's 100$ pipe got %50 off-even if I did not need it,and again our crappy import customs duties in addition which made another+%24 addition to total merchandise price

as for loading photos here in forums I'm not sure if I'm up to this kind of coplicated technics since not a computer geek here.

Rains are coming—at least here in N. California..... So fire that baby up!
If you live where there's extreme humidity or the opposite, steps might be taken to keep it in neutral zones, guessing between 50-60% RH..... I bought a pipe in Santa Fe (dry, dry, dry!) three years ago, band was loose, stem a tiny bit loose. Stem fixed up after a month, band not for two years!
Paulie- If you email me the photo, I'd be happy to post it for you. PM me an email address..

When I buy a new pipe, it goes in the rack with the rest of my pipes. If I were to hide it away in its box, I would eventually forget about it and it might not get smoked....which is the whole point of buying the pipe in the first place. Just my .02

....that's not how it works, we can get at least 2 pages of silly responses and irrelevant photos off of 1 simple question, is this guy new or what

Paulie,

I also took advantage of that great sale on the Rattray's and I've got to say I'm very happy with how she smokes.
Your best bet is to keep it in the sock and box and keep it somewhere visible so you don't forget.
Enjoy it.

Hi Dear Mister 'Fitzy-- I have two Rattrays, the first my Rattrays was that from Highland serie nro 12 Canadian(the one that tends to smoke a bit hot?!)then generally due to my loving of canadian and lumberman shaped pipes,I got my eye on that cheaper end Marlin model-line of the same shape. As you would know erlier

they're producing them Rattrays in France, headquarters being in Germany(in case should you have any issues with them pipes),yet none of them sells cheap back here in Eu,

Have a Nice weekend, Paul

I have padded mats on my closet shelves where most of my pipes rest. The Weaver piece that I commissioned for Christmas lies there unsmoked with its companions. Anywhere that you feel that it will not be knocked about should be safe to keep it.

Keep it in the sock and box. Hopefully in plain view so ya don't forget about it. I took Cosmic's advice and stored some in mason jars buried in the back yard. Now I got 6 new pipes in the back yard but I forgot where I buried em.Damn, if I knew where Cosmic was I'd wring his neck ! ;-). Congrats on your find.

Those of you who wait until a special occasion to smoke a new pipe have far more discipline than I.

My new pipes never go un-smoked for more than a day or two
