Starting to Get Obsessed
This question is driving me a lil insane! How do I tell how old my tin of 'baccy are? My tin of capstan flake blue label was very gracious to put it right on the back label, but my erinmore flake just has a couple sets of numbers, one of those being; 1208110806. Now, am I correct in assuming that it was packaged on December eighth of 2011? Or am I completely off track?? And hardly any of my others have a date, let alone numbers. Except for Mr. G. L. Peases blends, with the date sticker end right on the bottom of the tin! Just a question that has been infiltrating my noggin for a lil while.lol

I have a few from the early nineties that have the price tag still on them. It reminds me the good old days really were better.

Except for Pease, McClellend, C&D and Escudo, I do not know of any mfg that dates their tins. When I get mine tins with no dates, I write the date and that is it. I am sure some mfgs age their tobacco before tinning, but for how long no one really knows. It is basically up to us consumers to keep track of the age on our stock.

I was waiting for a witty post like the "Dinner and a movie"!lol I thought about that a I was typing the question. I also do that with my tins, writing the date that I acquired it, but was just wondering if there was some secret code or something that I didn't know about yet.haha Guess not! Thanks for putting my mind to rest!!

Mac Baren also dates their tins, I just bought a tin of "Roll Cake" today, dated January 31 2007.
The date code on their tins reads like so;
08070311
08= machine number

07= year

031= calendar day

1= first shift

Yup, write the date on it when you get it, and accept the fact that most of the time that is all you are going to get.

There are dates on some Davidoff tins as well. I have some dated for '06. Not having newer tins I don't know if they still do.
