I finally bought a pipe pouch! It is awesome and I love it... It hold two pipes and all my tools, it also has a removable zip up tobacco pouch in it, and this is where the problem is. I have no idea how to take care of the latex tobacco pouch! I was wondering how you guys take care of yours? How do you clean it and sanitize it? How often should I clean it?

Hey Bubba,
I usually buy the $6 roll ups.

They have thin leather outside and a latex interior.

They have a screen like structure in the bottom to collect the dust.

I just use them until they wear out.

It never occurred to me that they would need cleaning except to pour out the dust.

Each one has lasted me at least a couple of years, I have one that I use that is nearer 10 years old.

When they wear out I just through it away and get a new one.

But, if you do want to clean it I would first test the latex to see if alcohol can be used.

Before using it I'll wipe the latex with some alcohol

to clean it. It's also a good idea to repeat this before

you put a different blend in the pouch. I'm not aware of

a product that extends the life of latex, but even if I

did, I'd think twice before using it on something that I

put Pipe tobacco in....

Igloo's advice is spot on. Latex is not an everlasting rubber. As Lawrence points out, it wears out. Latex tends to turn brittle over time. If you wash it let it air dry in the house. Do not expose it to sunlight. That would only accelerate the decomposition of the latex.

If you store it for any length of time empty dust the inside lightly with corn starch so it doesn't glue it's self together.

Can you post a picture of what these look like?

I'll see if I can post one tomorrow (later today).
It ain't fancy, just a black roll up pouch.

As for cleaning mentioned above.

I suppose I really don't have any need to clean them because, I only put 1Q in them.

And then just enough to last me while I'm out and about.

This way I don't open my Q-jar any more than is necessary.

Don't want it to dry out.

One other use is on my smoking table.

I will put just enough 1Q in it to last the evening, again so I don't have to open the jar too many time in a day.
