Typically, how quickly would one transfer an order of bulk from individual plastic bags into jars or more permanent form of storage? Alright to leave it around a weeks sealed tightly in the baggies as long as removed from original cardboard shipping box?

How large is the bulk sample and how long do you plan on taking to finish it? A couple of weeks ago I got a couple of 1oz samples. I did not jar them because I knew that I was going to finish them up rather quickly. I just got 1lb of bulk in this week and will jar it up this weekend.

Yes, 16 oz of variety - I will probably use half within 2 weeks - I want to store half of it - but a week wont dry too much or leach bad plastic flavors from the bags right? I usually get my stuff in tins that's why I ask

good to know I'll be jarring some this weekend but I don't have the time or patience to obsess right this minute - I used to be very lax about my storage but lately I don't want to spoil my stash

No idea, never let it go more than a few days. I can tell you there is no noticeable moisture loss in a few days, as long as you remember to seal the ziploc, haha. Past that? No clue. Why find out?

I've waited over a month a couple times (just looked at some dating on a few jars today that were about 2 months, and I have had one bag sitting for 4 months at least still because I over ordered on it and am out of jars. However, usually about no more than a week or two. Just depends on the mason jar supply. I would prefer to jar it right away, but I've got several 1lbs jars in storage without a problem after sitting a year or two, which if there was a problem, there should have been already. Also, on big orders, make sure you do inventory them upon arrival. I have had a few wrong shipments... 5 lbs of Daughters & Ryan instead of Comoy's Cask #4 for example, or some ounces here or there of completely missing. Never anything resulting in my favor, although pipesandcigars did once replace a McArthur that came without a bit or ferrule with a new pipe and I still have the old bowl and shank just sitting, they also made good finally sending my Comoy's #4 after I returned the Daughters and Ryan... no apologies or much anything... just out a lot of my time sending emails and pictures. Wish everyone better luck, especially our beloved tobacconists.

Why wait? Clean jar fresh lid and a few minutes to make it happen. Spent hard earned $$$ on tobacco and its Not a huge ordeal imo.

Yes, well I haven't ordered from P&C in a long time - they are a poorly run operation - their sister company CigarsIntl, interestingly run a much better show. I don't like supporting them anymore as they are part of the big tobacco cabal along with J&R and Nat Sherman - It's basically few people at the top getting wealthy owning stake in everything from Pipes to Cigarette outlets and lobbying Washinton DC while the rest of us lose our basic rights and liberties. Sadly they make all the great products we've grown to love. If I'm going to buy their tobacco I try and spread the money around and not use their retail exchanges - try and support the small guy and buy from any B&M or smaller dealers.

“No telling how long it sat around in bags before I bought it” -ray47. This is exactly why I don’t freak out about this. I live in FL and have an ideal tobacco humidity so, I am not representative of most of the country. I usually leave an open tin a day or two before jarring. Bulk bags 4oz or less I bag quickly, usually after having a bowl. I jar 8oz tins/bags after opening. I have, also, started using Mylar for larger quantities. I Mylar SG and Esoterica 8oz in their original packages. I am still debating a consistent method of handling 1b and 5lb manufacturer’s bulk bags. I have left them ”as is” because it appears that these thicker bags offer plenty of protection in my climate. Additionally, as the quote states (see above), I have seen these open bags literally set years in B and Ms. I am not too worried about a huge dry out here.

Yeup... tobaccopipes has been doing me right, and I like service at a few others as well. Stopping by the local shop is always a good time and pick up there to help pay the bills. I had to be fair above about the pipe where I was sent a damaged one... half a cob basically, and they did me right by just sending a new one. I did them right by returning that 5lbs bag of Daughters and Ryan, and of course they wanted pictures and it was a little "todo" before I could get my 5lbs of Comoy's. I'm actually not planning on going back really. I don't want to give them my info that they would want now.

I have jars waiting when I get the
"Out For Delivery", notification.
That there has been my issue a couple times.... not enough jars. Even when planning ahead trying to have the jars ready for arrival. It must have been canning season. I did a lot of drive-bys (2 diff Walmarts and Target) after work trying to get cases of the type of jar needed - only to find shelves empty or a few colored single jars for the same price as a whole case. lol. I've recently decided, that I will enjoy what I have and smoke through a few jars before storing more.... if possible. It could lead to ... "just one more case" of jars a few more times, but I've curbed the TAD quite a bit.

Totally agree... as long as your locals do have enough jars =) Fortunately, after a month all was jarred.
