Hey everyone I've been doing a little research lately on the sizes of pipe bowls and the amount of tobacco used per smoke, for a definite price range. Being new to pipe smoking i only have one pipe, so i was wondering if you guys could help me by posting how much you smoke per week, and how much tobacco goes into your pipe (oz. per smoke). Hopefully then i'll make a chart showing (by size of bowl) the relative cost per smoke in relation to the average cost of tobacco! IT'S BUDGET TIME!! LOL Now everyone can keep good track of their smoking costs! haha

Because I am a college student...and therefore broke most of the time, I buy in bulk. I will buy a 1/2 lb or 1 lb bag of a blend, smoke the hell out of it and move on. The bag lasts me about 3-4 months for the 1/2 lb and 4-6 for the full pound. The blend I am smoking now is an English blend that cost $26 USD for the 1/2 at a full pound it is $40 even.
Hope I could help!

When it comes to bulks, the economy of scale rules.

When it comes to quantity smoked per bowl, I will hazard a guess at 2 grams on the low end, and 5 grams on the high volume end. It is all dependent on the size of the bowl.

As for frequency of product consumption; that too is highly variable.

There are some members here that will smoke only a bowl or two a week or even less, then there are the freight trains (myself included) that will smoke from 2 to 10 bowls a day. You know the guys that are never seen without a lit pipe.

My average (I am guessing here) is 3 to 4 a day.

A pound of 1Q will last me about 2 months but, I have several different tobaccos that I smoke to fit my mood. Lane 1Q is my utilitarian tobacco. It is a good, mild, sweet, relatively inexpensive, and thoughtfully manufactured bulk blend.

That's my 2 cents worth.

I'm not on any budget, and smoke 7 or 8 bowls a day. For no other reason than curiosity I've actually looked at the numbers,

and I average about 15¢ per smoke. This encompasses tobaccos from P.A. on the low end, through bulks from McClelland,

H&H, and C&D, among others, to some pricey boutique tins from GL Pease (which are mainly treat tobaccos.) I tend to use

smaller pipes that hold about 2 grams, maybe a tad less (excuse the pun).

Nice to know that my dream of not having a budget is out there cortez! :D I've actually just crunched some numbers and seen that that makes one cigarette about twice as much as a pipe! Imagine that! As a pack of cigs costs about 5-6 dollars nowadays! Powere to the pipers! thanks for the input guys!

OK, working from a 3gm per bowl load, which is 16-17 bowls per 50gm tin,

that works out to @ $0.56 per bowl, using a $9 per tin price. Using

5-7 Pipes per day, that works out to $2.80 - $3.92 for the day's smoke.

With the enjoyment to cost ratio it just does not matter . But with my best quess about 30 cents . Hey I like big bowls . I can tell you it takes me twice as long to smoke the same amount of tobacco as a cigarette in a pipe .
