I have 10 at this point and am seriously opening a tin of bagpipers dream or sherlock holmes. I haven't tried either. I'm just wondering when I need to have some restraint and stop opening more tins. The 500 dollar tobacco order of all tobacco I haven't tried doesn't help.

Four really only smoking two at the moment. But I'll dip into a jar when I change things up. Or jar something up that I have moved away from.

Unless I'm intentionally keeping tins sealed to let them age, I'll open any and all tins I want to sample.

So I have at least a dozen open and accessible. No worries about them drying out because I immediately

transfer the tobacco to small half-pint Mason jars or Smuckers preserves or toppings jars (which work quite well).

If I'm out of jars I'll rub some bee's wax along the rim of a pop-top tin and press aluminum foil over it,

snapping the plastic cover over the whole thing. Works very well.

Currently have 3 tins open, with 6 jars of various bulks on the go. Sometime next week, I expect to see my March TAD orders showing up, and as they do, I plan to crack and jar them immediately, so I can sample bits of everything.

I'm a one at a time kind of guy. And I move 8 oz at a time because of my jars -- when I open one I commit to it for a good while heh heh.
As for waht you -can- do? First tin I ever bought was fine 3 months after I initially opened it, a bit dryer than I would have liked, but I tossed in a moistener to fix that in just a few hours (moistener is a clay disk held in small perforated aluminum shell) and it was still moist when I finally finished it off at the end of that month.
So, whatever you can realistically smoke in 2-3 months is my suggestion for what you can. . . a little more if you've got the moisteners and don't mind a slight loss in flavour I am sure occurs (I didn't notice, but I was new to pipes)

Probably a dozen at this time. BTW, Bagpiper's Dream is at the top of my list. Quality tobacco and a great tasting smoke with a wonderful room note. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

5 tins, and 4 jars. Keep open tins contents in canning jars. For the most part they keep nearly as fresh as the day they were opened.
