I'have a can of Marlin Flake that has been sitting for a year and was probably at least a year old when purchased from a B&M. I'm wondering what is the optimal age for these Virginians. I know that they improve indefinitely if celllared properly. But as with most things, there is a point of diminishing returns.
So do the biggest improvements show up in two years? 3 years? 5? I'm at an age where I can't realistically assume that I'll be around to reap the benefits of aging 15 years from now. On the other hands, none of us should assume we have more than today.

I age all Virginias a minimum of two years, but I have some at over five, I think the five year olds were better than the same tobaccos at two years, but my pockets are not so deep that I can afford to hold them longer than that. You are tying up assets in cellared tobacco, so if you can afford it, the longer the better with Virginia tobacco.

Pease says improvement at 5, 90% at 5, and then slow, progressive improvement across decades.
