Quick question for the experts here. Once a good ember is achieved, how long does it typically last if you set it down and come back to it? That is without having to relight. Thanks all

it's pretty variable and can be a lot longer then you'd think or it can just go out quite quickly. In fact it's random enough of thing that I bet lots of factors are at play with it. Though I find if it's dryer it will smolder for much longer without burning more of the tobacco you aren't smoking currently.
nope but that doesn't change that it doesn't have a solid answer.
OK - so seconds to forever. Tell me how long have you had one go? A guesstimate. I can't help myself I'm a freaking scientist...data is my life. LOL
It's not a stoopid question, but it's also not a simple answer, because different blends burn differently.
I've interrupted a smoke to enter a store, putting the pipe in my pocket before entering, shopped and paid for a few items, exited the store, pulled the pipe from my pocket and continued my smoke without a relight. Maybe 15 minutes. And, there are blends that will go out in less than a minute.

yeah like going into a store buy some stuff take the pipe out get the lighter ready and realize it's still going. 10-30 minutes. And could be longer but never tried. Also taken the pipe out to answer a question or two and had it go out.
Like it's always been preached around here, the best flavors occur when it's on the verge of going out. So, my pipe is usually on the verge of going out, meaning it needs even the tiniest of sips to keep it going. Can't see an unattended pipe staying lit for long if it's on the verge of going out. I've never timed it but I'd say a couple minutes would be pushing it for me.
I've only had a pipes last about 5 minutes without attention. I smoke a lot of tobacco that is a little on the wet side so that could be why it won't stay lit for very long unattended.
Depends. Few minutes at longest, and 15+ sec at shortest. When things are going great in a larger pipe, I can put it down, go take a dump and come back to keep on smoking. In smaller pipes, put it down to take a sip of Diet Pepsi and it's out.
A couple minutes at the most in my experience… not long enough to take a leak and come back?

Sometimes long enough for me to put the pipe in my pocket; pop into the store and buy bread for breakfast and carry on smoking when I leave again. Other times I'll need to relight.
