If you smoke 3-4 bowls a day how long does it normally take to smoke a pound of tobacco? I have mostly been smoking tins over the years and am now looking to ad some serious poundage to my cellar. I only have maybe 2 pounds of bulk in the cellar and really have not paid much attention to how long it lasts. My pipe collection consists of group 5 and larger, a bowl normally lasts an hour and a half to two hours for me.

A pound of tobacco is equal to about 453g. If we use 3g/bowl as an "average", we get 151 "bowls" of tobacco from each pound.
If you smoke 1 bowl a day, you'll puff through a pound in 151 days. This is about 2.5 pounds per year that you'll go through.
If you smoke 2 bowls a day it works out to 75.5 days to smoke a pound. This amount will set you back 5 pounds per year.
If you smoke 3 bowls a day, you get about 50 days. You'll need approximately 7.5 pounds per year for this amount per day.
If you smoke 4 bowls, about 37.5 days. You'll consume about 10 pounds per year based on this smoking pattern.
It goes on from there.
All those numbers change depending on how much you pack per bowl.

Pack your pipe.

Dump the pipe out.

Put that tobacco on a scale to see how many grams it is.

Then you can start doing your own personal calculations.

Thank you very much Lordnoble, that was very enlightning. Now I have a very good idea on how much tobaocco I am going to need in my cellar. At my curent rate of cosumption I am going to need a fairly substantial number of pouds for smoking and aging.

You must of been a mathematician or accountant back in the day!!!!

Not at all. Actually, math comprehension has eluded me most of my life. But one thing I can do well budget. Sticking to the budget? Never. But coming up with one with different variables makes it so eventually the person I'm budgeting with (usually my wife) gets bored/confused and leaves. This allows me to cook the books, so to speak. More pipes and tobacco for me! :nana:
