The first two smokes in my bent pipe were horrible with tobacco from a roll-your-own cigarette vendor. How long does this flavor last in a pipe? Today I smoked Savannah blend from Tobacco Trader. This blend received several good reviews. I still tasted the old stuff.

Thanks for the advice given to a new user.

sounds like you could use a really good internal cleaning, which there are numerous threads on here already...do a quick search for them...and welcome to the forum if I missed you before.

Forever and a day. You'll have to really clean it out good, or smoke through the pain, so to speak. With some blends the flavor will last 10+ bowls.

I'd suggest, like hobie, searching the fora for cleaning tips.

Unless you give the pipe a really good cleaning (can you say Everclear?) it will take many smokes to overpower the ghost. It will eventually be overpowered by your smokes but will take some time. Alcohol or salt treatment will clean it out, but just continued smoking will eventually drive it away.

I should add that getting some Everclear-a dedicated pipe cleaner found at most local pipe shops, or use some Bacardi 151 rum and pour it into a dish that you can put some pipe cleaners into and soak up the rum and then swab out the bowl and passages with, taking great care not to get it on the outside of the pipe(it will ruin the finish as the alcohol acts as a solvent/thinner to the stain and wax original finish).

And if that fails drink the rum and you won't care about the ghosting. Hmmm seems I have a theme going here?

Scrub the pipe out with some decent booze and then try again.

Uncle's got the right idea.

Several of us use Everclear... However; if you want to truly sweeten that pipe, I recommend Ezra Brooks.

First: Clean the pipe really well then screw in a paper towel into the bowl.

Then: Dip a pipe cleaner in the Ezra Brooks and carefully insert it down the stem and shank of the pipe.

Next: Very carefully and slowly soak the paper towel with Ezra Brooks.

Then: Place the pipe in a stand and let it sit for at least an hour.

Next: Twist the paper towel to smooth and remove most of the cake, remove the cleaner and paper towel.

Last: Let the pipe rest for at least another hour, then fire that puppy up.

Oh yeah... one last thing... consume any leftovers. :)

When I have a ghosted pipe that's how I dispel those evil spirits.

Thanks for the advice. I cleaned with rubbing alcohol and it smells much better.
FYI, Experience is a lousy teacher. It gives the test, then teaches the lesson.

Certainly cleaning a Pipe will help to reduce the time spend in

exorcising ghosts of past smokes. There are blends that will take more

time than others to get out of a Pipe. Another aspect to this chore is

the blend(s) that are used to smoke the ghost(s) out. For me, a Virginia

or Virginia/Perique seem to produce the quickest results. I say this since,

they seem to burn a bit hotter than most blends.

Watch...We'll start seeing rumors all over the forums saying that it takes 5 years to smoke the ghost out of your pipe...Uh oh.
