As I type this, I am sitting outside in the cold (sadly) as I can't smoke indoors. However, I've worked out how to enjoy my pipe smoking experience nonetheless. We have a carport which is where I usually smoke as it's semi sheltered, and I find that my favourite experiences are when I bring my laptop outside, pop on some nice tunes (I'm a sucker for world music) or watch some youtube videos, usually a good documentary, The Young Turks or some QI (gotta love Stephen Fry!). Occasionally, I'll watch a movie if the mood strikes and I have enough battery power left :D This is my way of unwinding after a long week at work with a pipe anyway xD. Hope that I'm not bastardising the pipe smoking experience in anyway, just thought I would share. What's your favourite setting for enjoying a pipe?

It's cold where you are?! 8O
Sounds nice btw. My routine is somewhat similar. My place is on the front porch when it's raining or back porch when it's not. We have these really comfortable Adirondack chairs, settle in with my MacBook. Sometimes it's a video or visiting sites; usually tho I'm on the forums checking posts. :puffy:

My spouse and I bought a new patio umbrella and a couple of chairs this weekend. Now we can spend more time out back, and I have a nice shady spot to enjoy a pipe in. Now we just need a couple of outdoor end tables to put stuff on...

Down under, eh?
I smoke outside a lot, usually with a book or magazine in my lap. Sometimes at the computer.

Welcome marlboro!
bastardising the pipe smoking experience
Absolutely not! Your Pipesmoking is solely for enhancing your life and downtime. As long as you are happy with it that's what matters. I'm an outdoor smoker too and fortunately it is summer time here in Ohio so I've been spending lots of time enjoying my pipes on my patio. The weather has been a bit strange and it has rained on and off every day for the past few weeks. Climate change I suppose. My tomato plants are loving it though.

I've got a garage that I converted to a wood shop. Early each morning, I'll brew a cup of coffee, open the garage door, fire up the pipe and watch the sun rise. Any other pipe I might have during the day has to be worked around the family schedule.

Indeed numbersix, it's kind of winter here I guess? I'm in Adelaide, Australia so opposite to your weather at the moment. I say kind of winter because at the moment the weather can't seem to decide whether to stay in winter mode or spring mode, so although nights are a bit chilly the days can be beautiful! Great to see everyone's preferred smoking experience and that I'm not alone in :puffy: outside :D I'm off to work soon but having read all your comments I find myself wishing I could just sit back and enjoy a bowl! Oh well, after work it will have to be :D

On my porch at night, listening to BBC world service with either a cup of tea or a nice cold beer. Great way to end the day.

I usually sit out front in my garage with some good tunes on as well... I have a great view of the sandia mountains from my house so Its really nice to go out when the sun is setting.. The mountain turns a pinkish orange color..

Me and my buddies sit out on the deck with jazz playing and usually end up playing poker if enough people are there or just play chess all night, it's just so

relaxing.

I know this might not be politically correct, but I like smoking my pipe with a cup of coffee while I watch my kids playing at the park just around the corner from our house. They are always at a safe distance; they're where I can keep an eye on them, yet nowhere near the smoke. If another parent comes by, I can sorta gauge whether they'll have a problem or not. (Most of the other dads don't seem to mind; it's really the kind moms who can't let their kids fall without rushing over to save them.). It's a joy to walk the parameter of the playground sipping and puffing.

Lighting a fire in a chiminea on a patio in the cold might be a way to warm up your experience.
The wife and I have a smoking table set up in the corner of our living room. I used one of those tables with the removable leafs to make a half round table against the wall. We put a small wooden treasure chest on the table with our tins and jars of toby in it. Our other smoking implements are placed around it along with our pipes. It looks neat. We have two chairs there and a stand up lamp. Out side I have a homemade bench and some wooden chairs on my front porch where I sit and look at the birds and squirrels in the woods.

In my adirondack chair on the front patio with my dog, and occasionally with the company of my wife (who loves the old-fashioned-ness of pipe-smoking, BTW); in the garage if it's inclement weather or cold.
