Now when I count to three, you will wake up and feel comfortable and rested ... one, two, three. Is that hypnotic or what? And yes, he makes it look so easy. He knows just where to keep his hands, and when to clear off the drill bit, and so forth. It's a lovely video.

I'm bumping this just to give people another chance at watching the video. It's an anti-stress therapy for the holidays. I would have categorized this under Pipe Talk, so I had to hunt it down. It's under Pipe Smoking Discussion if you need to revisit it for therapy.

A good video for people to see what goes into a custom made stem. Over half the video is devoted to the stem alone!

I was fascinated with the shift from bowl to shank on the lathe, then going to the sanding wheel for shaping the bottom of the bowl and the joint between bowl and shank, and then the hand-made stem work. The guy is so practiced and precise in is work, it's like a dream. I am entranced. I've seen short clips of this process by others, but the whole segment is somewhat magical. The rhythm of the machines and what sound like wind chimes in the background are hypnotic.

Yeah I like how it's "just a billiard" in that he used to crank out classic shapes all day , if you click on the channel link you can find an interview where he talks about his first pipes from going from pipe repairman to pipe maker to head of operations he's very matter of fact about his skills lets them speak for themselves, a true master...

I've watched this video a few times. My sense is, it hides as many secrets as it reveals. Also the bass playing is monotonous and fundamentally uncreative. Worthwhile viewing nonetheless.

If you like this, check out Jeff Gracik making this freehand.
