How do you guys travel with tobacco ? I have pouches and cases to carry my pipes, but what are you putting the tobacco in ? Looking for ideas when going to a friends house to smoke, casino, Party, etc

Body cavity ..
Ok , kidding , eBay has some Chinese stuff , pretty much a plastic lined pencil case made out of polyurethane (imitation leather )
I’m searching for a simple roll up pouch , leather , so far haven’t found a good one , maybe the local cordwainer can make me one

Extra thick walled baggies. I also keep a couple in my golf bag, lasts for weeks, but I live where the ambient humidity is favorable for neither drying nor dampening tobacco.
Edit: 4th Generation also makes (or made) a nice black roll up. I have one, but haven't seen it since we moved.

What did they have in days of yore , probably a drawstring bag , muslin or canvas

I usually just reuse a square tin, as carrying a Mason jar around just seems uncouth. A square tin fits nicely in my pocket. But, sometimes I will carry a pouch. The nice thing about a pouch is that it is somewhat air tight, and for those of use who prefer our tobaccos very dry, a pouch will keep out ambient moisture which can corrupt a nice crunchy tobacco.

I use an old rectangular tin of Cabbie's Mixture most of the time.

If I'm traveling and want several blends, which I always do, I use ziplocks and a red plaid folding pouch that I was given at a pipe show. Nothing fancy. And I might carry a tin or two, especially if it is less than half full and I plan to use it up. The pouch is utilitarian but fine, but it only holds one blend. I guess they have them sectioned into two or three sections, but I haven't seen those. I try not to carry much more than I'll use since it exposes the leaf to a lot of changes in heat and humidity. In days of yore, they had drawstring bags in which the leaf was sold, and of course in the last century they had the famous Prince Albert can, and other cans, which became famous in the telephone prank, "Do you have Prince Albert in the can."

Totally dependent on where I'm going, why and for how long. Everything from sandwich bags w/humidifying disks, tins and a rollup I use when going to a social engagement so ... infrequently.
What did they have in days of yore
How yore? In Britain and other civilized countries, "gentlemen" usually smoked only what was available in their club, the inn or what they had at home. The fictional Holmes kept his in a slipper nailed to the mantle place. Smoking in public is a fairly new phenomena, late 1800's maybe.
I would like to know what Alfred handed his customers their purchase in? Did the farmer haul a fistful to the field in ... what? At the club one could send a "man" to Dunhill to fetch tobacco to store at home or in the club for personal use. Interesting!

I carry a small travel toiletry bag - something like this this
I can pack (3) 4oz mason jars, 2 pipes in socks, lighter, tool and a few cleaning supplies easily
I have a slightly larger one that holds 6 jars plus the rest
Or 1 pipe and a 1-oz condiment jar or 2 (restaurant jellies) in my pocket if it's just a smoke

I just reuse old tins for whatever I plan on smoking. Most times I'll pack enough for 2 smokes a day, and if I'm gone three days or less I'll keep it simple and just pack one, MAYBE two baccys. If they are flake or coin then I'll just thrown them into the same tin. If ready rubbed, ribbon cut etc....plastic baggy's are fine. If it's a daily jaunt, then a simple tin and pipe with lighter and tamper is all I need.

Reusing old tins is a great idea. I will start doing that. Currently I carry the jar and my pipe bag

Also , check army / navy surplus or in Canada , there is princess auto . They always have some sort of small waxed canvas utility bag typically military style stuff with haps and Velcro .
I have one for collecting a couple pipes , tobacco and paraphernalia , good for a long haul trip, but too much for just an evening and you want stuff out your breast pocket.
