HH Bold Kentucky and HH Old Dark Fired are examples that are no longer readily available. Have you ever smoked these blends? I'm guessing not.
I believe you are correct. According to their website, they press their flake for a day, and then "cook" it while still under pressure. Thanks for the tip.
That’s where the “burnt ends” come from on some of their lines. Parts of the blocks that were directly against the plates, if I’m recalling correctly.
I retired from being a "fireground piper" a couple years ago. I know first-hand about "burnt ends" too.

Some enterprising fella could make a small killing by offering the equivalent of a “one-hour Martinizing” service to hot press tobacco…
