Greetings,
Sorry to hear about your purchasing a Hilson Fantasia
. I bought one back in the mid '70's when Hilson first came out with them. Frankly, one of the worst pipes I have ever owned. The Ebonite bowl does not absorb any moisture, so the Meerschaum liner gets soaked quickly, and becomes soft. It eventually fell out in chunks, rendering the pipe useless. Not very much forethought went into the design. Smoke yours carefully and infrequently. Avoid digging out any remaining dottle with a pipe tool. In other words, be gentle.
The Fantasia is typical of the 1970's "Psychedelic" era. Funny thing, Hilson (Belgium) went out of business shortly after releasing the Fantasia to the world. Coincidence? Who knows.
My first factory pipe was a Hilson "Mardi-Gras" (a second). I still have it and over the years I've collected several Hilson briar pipes. Truth be told, Hilson pipes were average smokers at best, nothing extraordinary. But I still look for old Belgian made Hilson pipes on Ebay! But NO Fantasias!
Anyway, good luck with your Fantasia. Remember, smoke it easy.
