Hi all. Been thinking about smoking a pipe for a while now. Reading a lot of literature on the web about the impact on health. Seems to me that due to reasons such as less frequently smoking than cigarette smokers, not inhaling and the fact that I am starting at age 57, I reckon the chances of leaving this earth from getting something nasty from pipe smoking is minimal.
Pipe tabacco is pretty expensive over here so not a cheap undertaking. Looking forward to reading about all things pipe related. Cheers. Michael

G'day and welcome from Perth Western Australia.

You picked an expensive time to start smoking a pipe, but it is still a hell of a lot cheaper than smoking cigars!

Welcome aussie, from central North Carolina, US. If you keep your smoking moderate, a bowl a day or so, you can probably keep the cost down even at those prices. I don't have a large supply of blends, but it is years for me, and I buy more than I smoke even with modest purchases.

Good to see a fellow Aussie - welcome.

The price of tobacco here is outrageous.
Last year they made it illegal to import tobacco without a license. For 18 months before then I ordered as much tobacco as my limited income allowed and built up a reasonable stash [I need to do a stock-take but I have around 35lb cellared]
A pound of tobacco from the U.S. cost less than a 50g tin here in Oz.

I've also started growing my own. Send me a PM if you'd like some Burley seeds [Next year I'll have a few Oriental varieties to share that I received from a very kind gent from this forum]

Hi. Is that right? 35lb equals 317 x 50 gm tins. Whoa. You are set for life. Very astute thing to do. How long have you been using the pipe? Michael
