First of all, welcome to the forums! Second of all there is a lot of pipe on ebay made in the Ukraine, and from what I've heard they arent half bad. Some of the other members may be able to help you out some more.

Russian carvers started getting pretty popular within the last few years. Some of the more popular pipe carvers are:

Roman Kovalev

Sergey Cherepanov

Mikail Reyvagin

Sergey Ailarov

Davorin Denovic (Croatia)

Victor Yashtylov

Sergey Senatorov (Latvia)
I met a few of them at the Chicago show last year. Don’t ask me which ones.

If you look at the bottom right side of this page, you will see the list of site sponsers. Mr Brog Pipes is out of Poland, but distributes through Amazon and eBay in the US. I have had good luck with Watson-shop out of the Ukraine. They are on eBay also.

The trip and the adventure are the important things. You already know what you like, so buy more of the same only if they are of good quality and cheaper than what you would pay at home. How can you lose? So you don't know the maker. Who cares? You will have something your peers don't have.

Some good points and designer names.I was told pipe smoking in russia is more aimed at the rich man like politics actors pop stars ect.And i have managed to find out what russians call expensive we would call cheap.Bigvan has given me names i wanted and ive listed these and smooth has a good point can i get them cheap[er there.I am hoping the ecomony wages there make some of these cheaper. My only problem is like all pipe smokers when do i stop buying if the designs are nice its knowing my limit.Pipe buying is my weekness if i see a good one

:)

Hi I'm actually Russian and I will be making a trip to the motherland soon. Moscow to be specific. I've wondered this myself and I have seen lots of Ukranian and other Eastern European pipes on eBay but never Russian. I haven't found much on the internet either. Anyways if you go to Moscow you will for sure find a pipe manufacturer. Take Los Angeles and dump it in the center of New York City. That's how big Moscow is. It's the biggest city in Europe. There are for sure pipe makers there but... how do you find them? They might not use the internet and if they do it might not be in English. As far as price... well if you go for a village in the middle of nowhere and find a pipe maker that sells to the locals then you will probably get a steal. If you go to Moscow you will not find anything cheap. There are more billilnaires in Moscow than in NYC and more casinos than in Las Vegas. People have money. Anyways good luck. I'll be searching myself I'll tell you if I find something. If you have a Russian friend ask him to Google search in Russian for you.

Moscow would be a nice place but i dont think i will make it this time i think its about 1000 miles from rostov on the don.As rostov are a cossack people i am hoping they will be cheaper as there are a lot of open spaces around and i think its cheaper than moscow. So Dimm it looks like we have interesting shopping ahead. And kevin :) i have checked out the russian chicks thats where im staying she knows nothing about pipes but she knows prices and where the shops are.I agree there isnot much info on russian pipe makers but i believe there skill is getting more noticed.I dont mind paying for a really nice quality pipe thats rare. But id like some real nice quality pipes cheap also.im quite excited really

Hey there I actually lived in Ukraine for awhile and bought a couple of pipes while there. A lot of pipes are made of cherry wood, but you can find some briars. I have one of each. The cherry pipe I bought was 5 bucks and it smokes just as good as the 20 dollar briar I bought. I would say that you can find some nice pipes for cheap there, and though cherry is not as nice as briar it still smokes good and you will find some nice looking pipes. Check out areas where there are street markets, tourist type of places where people are selling crafts. They are all over and you can find some really neat pipes at these. Also there will prob be a couple of nice shops around, that sell cigars and maybe pipes. I never encountered a lot of outside brands and none of my ukraine pipes are marked, but they smoke good and I like the way they look. And don't forget pipe smoking friends, make sure you get them something cool too. My buddy was in Turkey last summer and he brought me back a sweet bent pipe, unmarked, cherry, but again a good smoker!

Yeah there's nothing like a pipe with personal value. Collecting pipes abroad that remind you of your travels every time you sit down for a smoke is way more rewarding than patches or mugs or whatever it is people buy as souvenirs...

Hahahaha! You're right it does! дым (pronounced dim) means smoke. But I didn't even realize it! My name is Dmitri and my nickname has been Dim for more than a decade. Dimm has been my forum name ever since I signed up on my first forum which was not pipe related. I added an m because there was already a Dim on that forum. That's hilarious that you noticed that I wouldn't ever have caught on...
