Hi there,

I work in a small gift shop. A regular customer came in and wants us to sell the pipes he made from local lodge pole pine wood.

Now I'm wondering if this is safe to smoke from and if there are any risks that come with wooden pipes, should it be processed with a wax or do we need extra insurance?

I seem to recall that the sap in pine is not something you would want to burn—these pipes would be decorative at best I would think.

Pine is a no go. It's a soft wood and the sap is also highly flammable. If you did sell them, it'd have to be for decoration only.

There are other alternative woods for pipes. Pine is not one.

Also don't take dead pine needles and roll them in a paper bag and then smoke it. That was the worst shit I ever put in my lungs. I was all of 15 but my stupid started early.

I was a dead oak leaves rolled in loose leaf paper kind of stupid. I’m glad I’ve moved on to better smokes.
