So I am about three days from payday and getting ready to grab my next pipe. I'm super excited, this will make number 4 and I really want something geared more towards my Virginia blends. People keep telling me that Virginia's go better in taller, narrower chambers. Here's my question: what counts as narrow in the pipe world? There's a zillion to choose from and all look cool, someone point me in the right direction. Regardless of what I get, I'll post pics...

If you smoke mostly Virginias, I'm going to throw you a curve ball and recommend a pear wood. In my opinion, Virginias smoke wonderfully in pear wood. And with what you save over briar, you can spend the difference on all those blends you've been meaning to try :)
As for bowl shape, I don't look at it in terms of measurements but rather shape. With a few exceptions, I like Virginias & VaPers in billiards, apples, brandys, Dublins. I like VaPer hybrids in wider bowls: princes and pots, authors and tomatoes.

I'd look into a pipe with about a .750 bowl diameter and 1.5" deep or so. That would be the largest I would personally like for smoking Virginia's. From there, I would only go smaller.

I also smoke almost exclusively Virginias and VaPers. I enjoy Dublin, Lovat, and Poker style pipes. So a Canadian would be great in my opinion.

On the pearwood front, I do agree they work well for VAs and burleys. They are durable and cheap as well. Check out our site sponsor Mr Brog for some options but remember, many of the bowls on "his" pipes are on the small size.

I've had luck with Va blends in bulldogs and Rhodesians, small enough but deep enough.

I prefer pipes with inside bowl diameters of .725-.850 and bowl depths of roughly 1.500. Those specs will cover a wide range of blends. That being said, I have pipes with bowl diameters ranging from .500-1.100, but the specs I listed are the ones I prefer.
