Hey everyone,
With every review one reads, they will see flavors described within the text.

Each time I read these I wonder to myself how they could pick out the different tastes. I've been experimenting with my 1776 Tavern which I really enjoy, to try and pick out the notorious marshmallow flavor and so far no luck. When I exhale through my nose I get what might be a hint of it, but otherwise nothing.

Can anyone recommend techniques that I can use while smoking to bring out these "hidden" flavors? I figured adding a drink or eating before hand might help but I could not think of any other solutions to the problem.

Thanks everyone!

French Inhales! That's what I like to do.
For whatever reason, French inhaling is not easy for me to do. I feel as if I put more effort into trying to get the smoke into my nose than it is worth because I rarely inhale much at all. :?

All I can tell you is to smoke slowly. I never try to identify flavours, it just happens.

There are pure Burleys and Virginias, but "English" IS a blend, usually a blend of Virginia(s), Latakia, and possibly Orientals. This definition, though, varies from blender to blender (and smoker to smoker).
There are several different kinds of Orientals, and like Perique and Latakia they are condiment tobaccos. Not meant to be smoked by themselves, they're added in small quantities to flavor a blend.

Some people like to experiment by mixing / blending their own tobacco. So most better tobacconists do sell tins of the various items. Have a look at 4noggins for instance.

I like smoking the bowl all by itself, then waiting a few minutes. Then I drink some ice water and lick my back teeth. You wouldn't believe the yumminess that gets caught back there!
