Ok, so I am fairly new to pipe smoking after having inherited a few from my grandfather. I just bought a small batch of pipes off eBay and all of them turned out just fine except this one. It has a screw in metal piece (I don’t think it’s a stinger but I could be wrong) and when you put the pipe back together it has no airflow at all. The metal piece has a solid piece in the middle blocking the airflow and no matter the orientation, I have nothing. I unscrewed it and put the stem back in but it just hangs there about to fall off and has no good connection without the metal

Piece with its two o-rings. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

That's called a stinger, and is supposed to remove moisture from the smoke. Sounds like a bad design if it is required to keep the stem in. Had that pipe been smoked prior to you buying it? If so, it may be clogged. Soak the stinger in alcohol or hot water, it may have tar clogging the airway.

Took three soaks and some compressed air but it looks like I got it unclogged. Very odd design but it seems to be working now. Thanks!
