Help Please

Hi Guys,

I am a pipe smoker in Scotland and need some help please. I have a Dunhill Driway pipe which has a screw on bowl, in the bottom of the bowl is a small :crying: ceramic filter, and in the stem another filter. These filters were made by Dunhill for this pipe in the 50s/60s/and 70s but no longer available, can anyone help please in any way to find these filters.

Hello Irv, this is the first I've heard of such a Dunhill as yours. Can the pipe be smoked if the filters are removed? 8)

Your best bet would be to keep eyes peeled on ebay, they show up every now and then for reasonable prices...

I think they're made from kaolinite clay.
Alfred Dunhill used the neologism "kaoloid" to describe them, a word he trade-marked in 1934.

In the meantime until you find some more,

it may be possible to somehow clean the existing ones you have?
Worth looking into I'd reckon.

Yeah, the cloud thing they use is weird.
Do a search of www.worthpoint.com for Dunhill Driway and you'll get a few hits.

Hi Guys, Many thanks to all for your reply's. The Dunhill has one last filter in the bowl which is cleaned by applying gentle heat from a blowlamp to burn away the tar etc, its quite suprising to see the amount of tar that goes up in smoke from the filre even after one bowl!! Its a great pipe and almost mint condition that I bought from a fellow pipe smoker in Austria. I have two other inner tube Dunhill's shell briars made between 1941-52 they are great smokers to. Thanks again guys, shall watch ebay for the filters.
