Hey everyone! Been having a lot of fun here since I joined. This community has been great so far, so I was wondering you fine people could help me decide on a Peterson pipe (but I'm open to other pipes as well) under $100 dollars.
I own a Peterson Dublin Castle X105 and I really enjoy that pipe, it was an old pipe so I had to really clean and treat the mouthpiece a bit because it tasted like burnt rubber when I first bought it (stem is made from vulcanite I believe)
Anyhow, here's my parameters (pipe should be smooth, or smooth with minial rustication as all my current pipes are rusticated and I want something smooth)
I really like the look of the Peterson Clontarf Peterson Clontarf
But I'm open to suggestions....idk why I like Peterson pipes so much, I know there are much better pipes out there, but there's something about them that I just really enjoy.
Ok...recommend away! :puffpipe:

The new Peterson Dublin Edition smooths are only $79.20 at Smokingpipes here's a link

I love my Petes as well. They get a bad rep sometimes, but I've personally never had an issue with one.

I liked those but they remind me a little of the Aran, they're not bad, but I don't know if they jump out to me. They look like a lot of other pipes in their line as well as in other makers lines (namely Brigham, BC, etc)
Which Peterson do you own?

I currently own a 303, 307 and 314. All system pipes, all bought as estates, all under $100. Next on my list is a 317. All these are bent and either billiard or similar.
Keep an eye out on the "for sale" section of this forum and browse the sponsor sites. Every once in a while, a god deal pops up.

I have Petersons ranging from St. Patty's Day pipes to some of the higher end. But Smokingpipes has quite a few lines right now for at or under 100 dollars including, Dublin Edition, Clontarf, Donnegal, Shannon, Aran, and a few others. Go to Peterson pipes at Smokingpipes.com and change the sort options to Low To High, and you'll be swimming in choices.

^^^^^ Definitely look at pipedivan.com. I bought a pipe from them for a heck of a lot less than the same one available here in the states.

I got an estate Irish Harp XL02 from SPC for $90 that I absolutely love.
I love the Irish Harp series, I've been wanting one for a while. As far as estates go, I have my eyes on a Winslow Crown estate that is a 4.90/5 on Smoking Pipes. I'm a big fan of Winslow Crown btw and have been dying to get my hands on one.

How are the system pipes? I've heard mixed reviews of them, but the ones that love them seem to swear by them.

How was shipping though since they seem to be European, I know in the states we don't have to pay the VAT but how much was shipping from them? Did it come out to the same as buying it retail here?

Shannon and Aran both them offer pretty good value , but are hard to broke in and be prepared to get Bowl&Shank dipstain removed

I do how they drow, not too wide open nor narrow
I noticed that about that line, it looks like the staining job is really shoddy on a lot of that series.

toddryan,
For me, the system pipes have two advantages.
1. I can take the stem off for cleaning immediately after smoking. No need to let it cool down.

2. The "reservoir" really helps in keeping things dry. As embarrassing as this is to admit, I tend to have a lot of saliva (polite way of saying I drool in my pipes)
A bent pipe, I think, also helps with the saliva thing.

I got the Irish Harp 03 shape...and love it! it's a great smoker, love the look, I've been very happy with it...I know a lot of people don't rate the Petersons but I've been very happy with mine in the short time I've had it...

+1 on the drool factor. I must just produce a lot of saliva, had this problem when I used to smoke cigars too...some lads could just hold a thick gauge cigar in their mouth for 10 minutes straight and no saliva, me, if I hold a cigar like that I'm drooling all over the place. Same with my pipes, I can't just sit with the pipe in my mouth and when I puff I think I just get a lot of saliva in my pipes :/

Yeah I like them quite a bit too, they're over 100 though aren't they? Unless price has dropped since I was looking at them a while ago

I also got a dracula 03 that is one of my favorite pipes also, (and make fun of me if you will it has a 9mm filter). It was about $115 when said and done, $15 shipping and didn't take too long to get.
