Hello all, new to the pipe community. I have a pipe that came from my wife's grandfather that passed away a couple years ago and was wondering if someone out there can help me identify it. i believe its a German pipe and looks to never been smoked. Wanting to know age and maker, stuff along those lines.. Thank You!

As it says 'Austria' on the rim of the bowl, my guess would be that's the country of origin. Across Bavaria and other parts of southern Germany as well as in Austria pipes like this are sold as souvenirs. It may be smokable, but I wouldn't get my hopes up too high...

dukdalf, Thanks for the reply. As I'm really new to pipe smoking, i just wasn't sure if it was more than just a novelty item. No intention of smoking it but it will sit on the shelf with the rest of my pipes..

Welcome 'jones!

Ditto on what's been offered already, but you might want to search on Austria and 1761 -- if I read the date correctly. It may commemorate some special event. As it is, it looks like it has quite a bit of age on it. It's really nice that you took the time to do the pix and share this oldie with us.
