Help Identify This Pipe?

Not mine, but a friend’s... says it was his grandfather’s...
He’s not selling it, but curious of its history, or background if any.
Any help from this fantastically astute group appreciated!

Looks like a Kiko or a Strambach.

One mor picture... obviously a little rim char going on here? Or is that the finish and wood “aging“?

It's not wood, it's Meerschaum.

It doesn't appear to be Turkish meerschaum as such would be coloring from the bottom up. The coloring looks all wrong for Turkish. Hand colored? Pressed? African? It doesn't look African meer either. Sorry, can't really help without hefting and inspecting.
