] ]LUS pipe

This has a horn stem and a turned horn connector between the 2 silver mounts. Marked with LUS on the silver and LUS in an inverted horseshoe. Anyone familiar with this maker ? Seems too well made to be unknown.

Thanks, Rich

According to Herb Wilczak and Tom Colwell in their book titled "Who Made That Pipe?" LUS pipes were made or sold in the United States by Amilcare Lusuardi. They also list a date of 1921.
Perhaps if Forums member jguss sees this thread he might be able to shed additional light on Mr. Lusuardi and his pipes.

Thank you for that info. I found that Amilcare Lusuardi registered that trademark in 1924

My thanks to Forums member jguss for providing the following information:
"All I can tell you is that Amilcare Lusuardi was a resident of Turn, Italy; his business was located at 73 Corso S. Maurizio. Lusuardi applied for his US trademark on Sept 5, 1923. In the application he stated the TM had been used by him in his business since Feb 1, 1921. The same TM was registered in Italy on May 16, 1923. Lusuardi, along with a partner named Aristide Falco, was apparently a serial inventor of other things beyond tobacco pipes (registering manometers, etc). Offhand I don't recall seeing his name in my review of US tobacco trade journals from the early 1920s. My memory could be faulty, or equally likely he was an exceedingly minor player in the industry."

Glad you got some answers. That stem-shank connector looks like a means of prolonging the life of a horn stem.
