Found the above reading about Dunhill on pipepedia. An old black and white photo of a pipe that Sir Walter Reigh owned, that was passed down to Alfred Dunhill and displayed in his shop. I would love to see more pictures of it. Does anyone have any or know of any books with pictures of it? I know many "history of pipes" books have been done, maybe one of them has more modern photos of this peice?

Thank you.

Here is a link to a photo of what you are looking for:

A pouch with different pipes:
Pouch has “WR 1617” and a Latin inscription: Comes meus fuit in illo miserrimo tempore (“It was my companion at that most miserable time”). It probably refers to his last and disastrous expedition in search of El Dorado, which sailed from Plymouth 12 June 1617, not his imprisonment and execution in 1618.
An old drawing of this same pouch:

It's interesting because you can compare how people were depicting objects with the way that they looked in real life.

I wonder if the ancients in the Caribbean had been previously visited by the Algerians, who brought with them heather seeds, who then planted them and four centuries later fashioned them into a pipe for Sir Walter Raleigh, who before he was hung handed it from the scaffold to Bishop Andrewes, and for four more centuries generations of the Bishop’s descendants kept it pristine and venerated until on November 28, 1911 it mysteriously came into the possession of Alfred Dunhill?

That needs to be preserved beside John Henry’s Hammer and the Yocum Siver Dollar!

There are many variations of the legend of the Yocum Silver Dollar. We do know for a fact there actually was a Yocum Silver Dollar, for the coin was documented by the federal government. The mystery may be buried under Table Rock Lake. People still search for the location of where the silver mine was located.

Sir Walter Raleigh was beheaded.
I can't tell what that pipe is made from.
I am curious where the mouthpiece hole is that you puff through and where the chamber rim is.

He was a huckster of the highest order
Indeed also a noted inventor of automobile accessories and dealer in fine leather goods. Quite the businessman. But, Raleigh? A tale for the masses would be my take, something to bring in the customers and sell tons of tobacco. He built the reputation of Dunhill branded pipes which lasts to this day. A salesman, par excellent. A salesman of today couldn't go far wrong emulating his style.bdw

That run of the mill, pedestrian pipes of unknown origin continue to sell, based soley on the Dunhill marque, is amazing.

Ah ha!
Why has it been such a mystery, George? Do they make them start to finish here?

My high scool German is not up to the task. Who owns this factory?

Found it

Richemont Holdings

The company is headquartered in Westminster, City of Westminster, London. It also owns and operates a leather and smoking pipe workshop in Walthamstow. Dunhill is currently owned by Richemont Holdings (UK) Limited (formerly Vendôme Luxury Group plc) and managed by CEO ad interim Andrew Holmes.
