Help Dating an Ashton

I am missing the date suffix on this Ashton Sovereign, i thought they were all supposed to have one..

Looking for some help identifying this Ashton pipe I've just come across. Any information or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. There's some pretty serious "chipping" (?) on the rim decoration and I'm hesitant to call it silver but it's definitely similar... TIA.

Yes, apparently he was quite a character. It was also rumored that Bill enjoyed adult beverages at lunch and you didn't want to get a pipe made in the afternoon.....rumors.

There's a story told to me by a shop owner. He had to return a brand new pipe to Bill because he forgot to drill the draft hole
