Hello-

This site has been a great resource accompanying my early endeavors in the pipe world. I recently bought two pipes on eBay; a Peterson Standard System 303 and a Savinelli Ramsgate Sunrise. The Peterson cost me about $60 and it's ok; a little too heavy and it smokes wet. It's the Savinelli I'm curious about. Does anyone know anything about this pipe? I love it, but I can't find any info on it. When was it produced, what would it cost new? It's so light, the briar almost feels fake...
I have pics if it helps, just can't figure out how to post.
Thanks,

In order to post a picture you have to (from the main menu of PipesMagazine) put your mouse on My Account and then go down to the Upload Photo block. From there choose the picture and just follow along the steps (you must add text to the big blank block. When it is displayed right click and select copy location. When you come back to the thread, click the IMG button and paste in the link.
I've never heard of the Ramsgate and I only saw a couple hits pop up specific to it. Peculiar.
As for smoking wet, it could be the tobacco (what were you smoking), you may be smoking it too hot (puffing too hard and too quickly) and/or you are just salivating down the bore (the inside of the stem).
Welcome to the forum, Kevin.

Welcome, Kevin.
Try running a pipe cleaner through the Peterson while you are smoking and see if that helps with the moisture. With the 303 you can remove the stem to get the cleaner into the draft hole to the bottom of the bowl. The way the 303 is drilled, it will direct the cleaner into the reservoir.

Kevin, welcome to the forums. I don't know anything about your particular Savinelli, but someone, I'm sure, will know something about it. in general I find Savinelli's to be excellent pipes. I hope mrenglish's advice on your Pete helps you to enjoy that pipe as well. Perhaps you can dry your tobacco or try some different blends in your Pete and find a good match.

Not familiar with that particular Savinelli, but I have 4 Savinelli's and they're all great smoking pipes. I love my Savinelli pipes and plan to purchase more down the road. As for the Peterson, I would also recommend running a pipe cleaner down it during the smoke.

The system pipe needs to start dry. The collection area and a high sugar blend almost always guarantees that I get a bit of "gurgle" unless I smoke excruciatingly slow. I pay little attention to my pipe as I smoke so I usually do not notice the occasional disturbance. If I do, and it is annoying, I pull the bit and swab the reservoir.
Good luck and stay away from the "high sugar" blends if the noise irritates. Oh, and you might watch your packing as too much heat can sometimes cause even minimally cased tobaccos to generate steam along with the smoke.

I'm not familiar with that Savinelli model but I can say that having 10 Sav's everyone of them is a good smoker. Enjoy yours and welcome to the forum.

I suggest you look at Savenelli Oscar Lucite series, because they do not have the balsa filter, which to me is

a mixed blessing. I have a prince in this series and several Savenelli unfinished pipes, two from years ago,

sans filter, which are also excellent. If you just have a few pipes, these are excellent choices, or if you end

up with quite a few. Welcome to Forums!

Savinelli are some awesome pipes. the RAMSGATE SUNRISE is a full sized pipe,

Group: 5

Length x bowl height: 5 3/4 " x 1 7/8 "

Weight: 2.1 oz.

It is not a briar pipe it is an applewood pipe.

Made in Italy
