I'm new here, been smoking pipes a couple years, off and on. Used to smoke Mcclelland 221 series and a few others. I also like a good cigar once in a while. Prefer Aurturo Fuente Short Story. Smoking with a well aged sherried scotch or bourban is near perfection in my opinion. A moment in Shangri La.

Been trying other tobaccos and found some I like and some not so much. I got a free Iwan Ries 3 star blue with a pipe I bought and turns out I like it, a lot. its made by mac barens.

Been considering getting the c&d Carolina red flake but I hate buying something and not liking it. I feel like I wasted my money. I had some c&d speakeasy and I hated it. Tasted like soap to me. Not sure why, first time I couldn't finish. Dumped it out and cleaned the pipe. Gave it to a friend. The tobacco, not the pipe. I have 2 passed down from my dad. One says Italy, the other only has a logo? on the stem.

I think I can post a pic in the correct thread if it'll help. Then I have about 5 others I rotate, all bent types. Like their looks better. Thinking of getting a ceramic pipe from a company Lepeltier, I found on this forum while perusing.

I usually smoke while walking the dog. Gives me a reason to take my time and "get lost in contemplation". I usually go for vanilla types, have some Irish cream. Not sure about brands. It was at my local cigar shop in a jar.

Bought some Sherlock Holmes, Peterson I believe, tastes like cigarette tobacco. Not really bad, just not something I'll smoke a lot. Used to smoke cigarettes but quit cold turkey. Don't really have an addictive nature. My brother has tried everything to quit and doesn't believe it was that easy for me, but it was. A pack a day. Now only pipe or cigar a couple times a week.

Well I look forward to picking your brains and getting some knowledge, still working on properly loading my pipe.

My girlfriend recently retired from FEMA, so we have 2 houses of stuff to sort. Raining today so figured I'd take a minute to say hello and get some advice in the process. Thanks ahead of time and I appreciate your time wisdom and advice.

Welcome aboard from central N.C. I empathize with your two households. We have a household of many years here compounded with the contents of a small house on Long Island and an apartment in Greenwich Village my wife brought with her. If we ever get it sorted out, I'll be amazed. We try, but we also buy, so here we are. And neither a shred of neatnick to us.

My family was West Hempstead, Cutchogue, Uniondale, Glen Cove. Love the place, but financially "you can't go home again".

Greeting and salutations, glad you're here.

I tend to go for the bent stem pipes myself, and a fan of the aromatics. I too am learning how to buy & try, mostly I have tried ordering 1oz bulks so I am not committing myself to something I won't finish. I also read reviews on www.tobaccoreviews.com, it has helped. I also keep a log of what I try ?.

I loved commuting to Long Island when we were "courting," but I never considered living there, and she was ready for new horizons.

Welcome from Tucson, Arizona!

My practice with tobaccos that I don't like on the first try is to put them in a jar and give them a try a few months down the road. Often either the tobacco or my palate will change somewhat and give me a more enjoyable experience. A VaKenPer like Speakeasy will likely improve with age, and in fact, since it's part of their "cellar series," it's likely designed to be aged.
