Hello from Chesterfield, UK. I got into pipe smoking after seeing C17 / 18 costumed re-enactors smoking clay pipes. Now I'm giving up piping for a month as part of a fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Welcome from Florida. I would recommend buying a nice Savinelli with no filter of adapter and one not to big or two small. Tell the retailer you want a group 5., that weighs 45-55 grams If you have to buy on line tell seller to measure the shank, you want it 4.0-4.5. This will give you a nice dry smoke. Tell retailer to check the way stem fits to shank,no gabs allowed. Tell him to make sure that a BJ Long fluffy tapered pipe cleaner slides easily to the bottom of your bowl and it must be dead straight.
Hopefully you will get a great smoker which will give you a baseline for all other pipes you buy. Good luck.
