Long time pipe smoker here. Been lurking the site for a while and finally decided to join.

When I tell people that we have enough pipesmokers down here in Alabama, that when I set outside and smoke my pipe at the mall, someone usually joins me with their pipe... people usually don't believe me.

I had a long-time writer friend from Birmingham who taught for years at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., and published novels, short story collections, and poetry collections. One of the novels was titled, "There Is No Balm In Birmingham." I think she was a Quaker convert, and later in life she wrote and performed country music songs. Her name is Anne Deacon.
