Thought I’d say ‘hello’ as I’ve been lurking for a few weeks, enjoying the advice and the banter... and the pipes, of course. I thought it was about time I stuck my head above the parapet.

magic', love your city. The British Museum, Trafalgar Square and St. Martins in the Field with its candlelit cafeteria and concerts, taking in a show and enjoying pasta afterwards in Leicester Square, and so on. What's not to like? The War Rooms where Churchill conducted U.K.'s war effort. Climbing the dome at St. Paul's, to the topmost balcony outdoors. That last spiral staircase in open space under the dome was a thrill. The ravens at the Tower. The London Eye (ferris wheel on the Thames), and the boat ride up to Greenwich at the annual high tide. The Poets' Corner in Westminster. Oh yes.

Thanks mso... London is a great city. I’m in the East End - east of the Tower and across the river from Greenwich. You find life in all its rich tapestry in this part of the city, with a bit of grit to keep it interesting.

I thought he meant London, KY! (Kidding.) London's lovely. The work the city did cleaning up the centuries of grime a few decades ago really paid off. Wouldn't mind being there right now.
Welcome & howdy from the Piedmont of SC! Glad to have you with us. :)

Ah, the ferry service to Greenwich! A favorite.
Good luck on your expedition, and a big welcome.
Note: in 2022, the Three Lions will prevail in the WC! Who's your PL team? Spurs here.

Thanks for your welcome!
Yes, it's been football nuts here for the past few weeks. For the first time in decades people are proud of the team, despite just falling short of the quality needed to win the whole thing. I'm not much of a football fan, to be honest - a fairweather friend along with a lot of the nation. Years ago I had a season ticket to Millwall (very much not in the Premier League) but I haven't been for a long time... since my daughter was born and being absent every Saturday seemed a bit self-indulgent. I prefer watching test cricket nowadays but a match lasts five days, so I don't get to see much of that either!
As to the pipe-smoking scene in London... I see plenty of people with pipes but they're unlikely to have tobacco in them.

Enjoyed my shopping trip and a smoke in the lounge of James Fox in Piccadilly.
Pretty expensive in there but I was tempted by this (enough to buy it):

Welcome. I am a big fan of county cricket and test matches. I have really enjoyed the ups and downs for the Notts over the last couple of years. However, being in the U.S., even a lot of the radio broadcasts are blocked these days so I am reduced to score watching, masking IP address when home, or The Guardian Over by Over. Great new pipe.
