"Helix" on SyFy

Its been a while since we've had a good sci-fi show on television. "Helix" on the Syfy channel (which has been anything but...) looks promising. The show is about a virus outbreak at an arctic research facility. It's a Ron Moore show, who did Battlestar Galactica, a favorite of mine. It premieres on Jan 10th.

Of course, we may disagree about what constitutes "a good sci-fi show" -- I did LOVE the "BSG" reboot though -- but I would highly recommend "Orphan Black" on BBC America and "Continuum" on Syfy. I'm also enjoying the new "Almost Human" on Fox. And, of course, "The Walking Dead" is, fundamentally, science fiction. (I'm also enjoying "Haven" on Syfy, but if it's technically science fiction they haven't gotten around to explaining it yet!) Even though I didn't love it, I did enjoy watching the first season of "Under the Dome." But some of these aren't techy or futuristic or space-opera kinds of SF shows.
But, again, other than the recent BSG, our tastes may not overlap. . .

I did enjoy Continuum but missed the ending, not sure it is still on?

And I will have to check in with Orphan Black, I have the BBCAmerica and forget to check their offerings.

I enjoyed the Dome (I'm a King fan) and consider The Walking Dead one of the best television shows ever, no matter the genre (BSG Syfy Reboot also in my top 5).

What - now I have to catch upon Continuum! I missed the last episode of Season 1 and they never seemed to replay it, so I forgot about it...

ssjones, thanks for the heads up on Helix, I'll have to check it out. I've been recording Orphan Black but have only watched 2 episodes so far. I think I'm most intrigued by one actor playing so many parts, more than anything else.

Shoot, I'm still bummed they took Firefly off years ago.

I'm a huge scifi fan and loved the Battlestar show. I will have to watch this. Unfortunately, I'll be on a business trip in Europe during premiere. Thanks for the heads up!

I love science fiction but I loathe the horror genre and that is what the SyFy channel has basically became.
