I have a better suggestion than holding the drill bit with pliers. Find a comfortable piece of wood to hold, ie two inches of old broom handle, etc. Then, using the desired drill bit, drill a hole in the center of the wood. Remove the bit and carefully press the bit into the hole in the wood (duh, sharp end sticking out). Now you have a cordless drill to carefully enlarge the holes.
