Over the last 8 months my wife had been complaining that the smoke from my pipe was irritating her eyes. I have been smoking Captain Black white since 1982 with only compliments on the smell. After her comments I cleaned all my pipes even used bowl sweetner, still complaints. That was when I discovered that Lane had been sold to STG. I believe that they are cutting corners with the mix. It no longer smells like cookies/chocolate,smokes hot,and irritates the eyes. Have any of you Captain Black smokers also noticed this??

That's not a good experience. I have long relied on Lane's Burley Without Bite as a simple smoke

and neutral mixing tobacco, my old faithful. I hope it isn't affected by any negative changes.

I also enjoy LL-7 as an aromatic change-up from mostly smoking non-aros. I'll enjoy what I have

on hand, which seems to be okay, and hope for better reports.

Captain Black literally hurt my lungs (yes, I inhale)
ae1pt, you are a more stout man than I, to have survived inhaling Captain Black at all. I caught an accidental lung-full once and nearly lost my lunch.

Sorry ae1pt, but are you f'in crazy? And that's from a guy who smoked cigarettes for 42 years. Only stopped this past Jan 4th, then started the pipe, so I'm not much different. Dude nobody, is bullet proof. But to each him own.
I hope you guys are wrong about Lane cause I've got several pounds of their stuff cellared.

Anyone correct me if I am wrong, but isn't RPL-6 the same as CB White without the PG, and at a much better price when bought in bulk? It is also available at many B&M's, typically under another name, and again, at a better price.

"Not bulletproof--but pretty damned resilient!"
You the Man ae! No joking here, we're similar cause in '94 they said I had MS and I had to retire 18 years later at 59 from construction, but I can still walk just fine and do some physical work for 3 to 4 hours a day. A toast to us! (Crown Royal with a little ice)

I am another who would reccomend the new Crown Achievement unreservedly, I think it is excellent. It is also available in bulk. I would say that if one likes MM 965, they will definitely like CA, it's actually a bit more complex.
