This morning on eBay I bought a DH2 Oom Paul for $25 delivered.

Anyone ever heard of a DH2 pipe?

Maybe this was like the old Acme Powder Company pipes, given as a deal sweetener if you bought DH2 steel?

Anything they make road grader blades of just has to be premium steel.

Never seen one before. Are you sure about the Acme Powder Company? I thought that got wiped out in this lawsuit ages ago..
I’ll have to find it in my stash of pipes, but I own an Acme Powder Company pipe.

It’s too nice to have been a joke gift.

And there really was, an Acme Powder Company.

This one arrived today, and it wasn’t made as a second. This is the highest quality Oom Paul I own, period. Briar used was top shelf and craftsmanship flawless.

My guess is this belonged to some man with the initials DH, it was the second of maybe a set of 7, given by a loving wife, for a long ago Christmas or birthday.

Who can know, which maker?

But this is a custom order.

Looks like a 3/4 bent billiard
Yes, it’s not quite an Oom Paul.

My nomination for a shape is a Wellington, which is another way to say three quarter bent billiard.:)

But what’s startling is the quality of it.

The stampings were obviously from dies in a factory, but it’s just as obvious this pipe was hand made, by a stone, cold expert of the craft, of the best briar.

Something about it says WDC, maybe the stain used, but who can say? Why there’s no brand is a mystery.

It came with a uniform cake “the thickness of a dime” all the way down to the air hole, spotlessly clean inside. I cleaned all the cake out down to bare brair, and except for the gnawed rim, the chamber is perfectly round, polished, and the air hole centered.

This was somebody’s baby, once upon a time.

One of my best smoking pipes is a no name Algerian briar sitter ... my guess is its a hand made J.Waille of Lunel France only because of the stem shape and fleur de lis on stem. No matter as I won't part with it. The rest of my no names are 3 Peterson seconds. Enjoy it. It probably is a top of the line pipe but for something only the maker saw that prevented it from being some branded pipe. Sometimes its just the wrong color of the stain/finish.
