I'll be going through both Dubai and Europe sometime in the next few weeks. It's a long story but I could be in either place for anywhere from 2 - 10 days. I will definitely be going through at least Dubai and London at the very least. If I get some extra time in Europe I'll be going other places (not sure where yet, but Scotland, France, Belgium, Ireland, and Germany are all possibilities at this point). Are there any specific, good tobaccos that would be hard to buy in the US that I should be on the lookout for while I'm in any of these places?

When I was in Dubai airport a few years ago they had Erinmore flake for $2.50 a tin and Davidoff flake Medallions for $6. If the UK and you like strong tobacco I would visit JJ Fox in London and get some G & H squires mixture, Revor Plug, Highland Sliced and Mick Mquaid Plug. or if unable to make it to a specialist tobacconist then some Condor, St Bruno, and Walnut Plug available in most supermarkets/news agents. If you make it to Belgium then try and get some Semois tobacco.

I honestly haven't done much more than drugstore aromatic blends at this point so I want to try a little bit of everything. I ordered a few samplers that will be waiting for me at home after this trip. Most of those are blends/brands I've seen several people here raving about. I like spicy, strong cigars and thick, dark beers so I'm thinking strong pipe tobacco will definitely suite me. I'm a huge fan of beer so Belgium and Germany are probably at the top of my list :)

Yeah, I read about the customs concerns you were having. Guess I missed this though. Thanks! (and thanks to Romeo as well)

Remember the distinction between strong tobaccos - lots of nicotine - and full-flavored tobaccos. They are not necessarily the same! I am personally a nic wuss, but like lots of flavor. I would guess asteroid1 is meaning "lots of nicotine" when he talks about those blends.

If you like aromatics I would recommend Petersen & Sörensen "Blue Sapphire"

Thanks Jud, yeah, I don't care about nicotine as much (from a chemical standpoint anyway) as I'm not a smoker for anything but leisure. I still would want to try some "strong" stuff as I've got an incredibly low point of reference right now having tried only a few drugstore aromatics to this point. When I get into something I typically like to do the "try one of everything and decide from there" approach but I'm not sure I really want to start down the high nic content road. I need to reread the sticky thread on the home page again methinks.

Romeo: yeah, my company is (or at least they were a few months ago) hiring like crazy. It's all IT related but if that's your field then PM me and I'll get you some details.

Definitely pick up some Condor (easily available all over UK), also St Bruno (not my cup of tea but if you like Virginias you might enjoy it) and also Amphora (I think is Dutch....used to smoke it when I lived in Australia...similar to Condor and available in tobacconists.)
Glad to know you're visiting Scotland! Am sure you'll have a great time here!

Thanks. I'm gonna try. It really depends how long it takes me to get out of Afghanistan but if I only have time to go to 2 places it'll be Brittan and Scotland.

If Ireland does become a possibilty, Petersons in Dublin is a must stop at place.
