I always assumed doughnuts were daily fodder for American policemen all over the nation, or at least that is how they're portrayed on TV. Perhaps Warren and Scott might have an opinion .

I used to love doughnuts as a young lad, straight from the deep fryer then shuffled in sugar, wrapped in paper and handed to my eager fingers :).

The police thing is rather overstated.

As a retired cop I can unilaterally state, it isn't or, wasn't back in my day. For many years the only early morning sustanence available was from the local bakery. And, while not really a doughnut, the apple fritter is a favorite of mine. The finest, in the Pacific NW, of which are baked down the highway from me in a a small town, Girdwood. It's an eighty mile round trip which I happily make a few (read: many) times a year.:sher:

We jumped the gun on donut day, but being in the neighborhood I stopped to get us two plain glazed, two chocolate glazed, and two chocolate glazed custard filled, at the local Krsipy Kreme.

I think I like Krispy Kreme's fried donuts better than Duncan Donut's cake donuts, but they are both pretty good. At KK you can see the donuts coming out of the frier by the hundreds like troops on the march.

not only do most Americans like donuts but the cop thing goes back to that being one of the few foods available at the odd hours that could be served and eaten quickly by a cop might be walking their beat.

Doughnuts straight from the fryer into a tray of cinnamon sugar are my absolute favourites
But Krispy Kremes with original glaze are (surprisingly) more-ish
